Bob Witzack- The Tarot Series

Portrait2.jpg

Through the years my work has reflected the world around me, but recently I have been drawn to the mysterious world within- in particular to exploring recurrent autobiographical themes which emerge from the hidden world of my own psyche. In some contexts, the word psyche is synonymous with "soul."

As amazing things sometimes happen, I came under the spell of astrology and the tarot. As an artist, I became fascinated with both subjects because they presented a wealth of visual material with which to create personal narratives from the unseen world within one's own psyche. I had studied the work of Carl Jung in my college years and his concepts of the life of the unconscious had truly fascinated me, and there seems to me some interesting parallels between many of his ideas and themes I have recently explored in the tarot.

When I began to become more familiar with the Tarot deck, I was further inspired with what seemed to be a natural connection between the unconscious and the source of ideas and creativity. This connection can generate a creative voice expressible in painting, writing, composing music etc. The Tarot deck contains 78 cards. I have created 15 images from it for this show. Alongside each drawing is a brief description of the card/image, some traditional interpretations, plus added remarks and personal comments. Enjoy the show!
