Beyond Crayola

Watermedia Paintings by Karolyn Alexander

Raven’s Wish Gallery is pleased to announce a solo art exhibition by Karolyn Alexander of Whitewater. “Beyond Crayola” is a collection of watercolor, collage, and acrylic abstract paintings representing Alexander’s ongoing mission to “make surfaces more COLORful.”

Karolyn Alexander has enjoyed mixing colors and making plain surfaces more colorful since her first box of Crayola crayons. As a youngster she experimented with creating new colors by layering one color of crayon over another. An early retirement from UW-Whitewater allowed her to focus on creating art and in April of 2003 she began studying watercolor with the late Marilyn Keating at L’Atelier Art Studio in Janesville. Since then she has also worked in collage and most recently in acrylic.

Alexander’s book, “Watercolor Cookbook – Recipes for Mixing Delicious Color,” includes tips on mixing watercolor paints and more than 60 full color photographs of her watercolor paintings and is available for sale at the gallery. She frequently teaches adult watercolor and collage classes in both Janesville and Whitewater.

An artist reception for Alexander will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm on September 11th at Raven’s Wish Gallery. The exhibition will hang through September 30th.
