Emma's Thoughts

7/21/10
Finally, an event I can attend. Mark your calendars for the Tallman Festival of Art and Music, Sunday, August 8th. More than 75 artists will strut their stuff at the 53rd annual festival held on the grounds of the Lincoln Tallman Restorations in Janesville. It's outside, and calm, well-behaved doggies will be in attendance, including a visit by yours truly.

News, news, and more news. Join us for a Business After Five with the Forward Janesville crew on Thursday night, April 22 from 5 pm - 7 pm here at Raven's Wish. I've been informed I won't be in attendance so you'll have to come in again and make my acquaintance if we haven't already met.

We had a great Spring Art Loop last month with 40 talented artists and a crowd of about 325 interested art lovers. Plans are in the works for the fall loop sometime in late September. Stay tuned for a date announcement.

You'll find several new artists represented in the gallery...and some SPRINGY updates from Patricia Ehaney (Soap Dance), Cindy Hendrick (Woodfield Press), and Lois Sharpe (Sharpe Pots).

Greetings, salutations, and a lick or two. Looking for a way to beat the winter blues? Join us for Painters' Frolic coming up the end of March. It's gonna be a fun event with lots of artists, demonstrations, a public mural, a self-portrait exhibition, etc. I'm working on my self portrait. I hope they ask me to participate. Come in soon and see all our new "stuff" - Toquerville tiles, bottle corsages, and "Little Boxes." Plus, Critter Corner now carries dog shampoo and soap for your Spring bathing comfort. Ciao!

You'll never guess what I'm dressing up as for Halloween. Drop in on Saturday, I'll do some tricks, and you can have some treats. Deal? Deal! Happy Halloween!

9/21/09
"Critter Corner" is NOW OPEN! Stop in soon and check out the treat tins, personalized bowls, novelty dog & cat tags, journals, greeting cards, prints, posters and original art...ALL ABOUT PETS...and their humans, of course.

Consider this your "official" invitation to
"GET IN THE LOOP!" A coalition of businesses and artists will hold the Janesville Art Loop 2009 on Sunday, August 2nd from 10am to 4pm. Artists will be partnered with and hosted by local Janesville businesses – Basics Cooperative, Book World, Earthsong Books and Gifts, Fudglie’s Gourmet Treats, and Raven’s Wish Art & Framing.  Visit any business on the loop to pick-up your FREE Janesville Art Loop Tour Ticket and Map and begin the self-guided art tour.  More than 25 regional artists will participate in the event with artwork including pottery, sculpture, textiles, jewelry, painting, mixed media, and photography.

The "Critter Corner" is coming along nicely. I think they are painting and installing paneling this weekend if all goes well. I can't wait to see the new dog stuff...pewter dog tags, treat bowls (YUM!), greeting cards. What fun!

Last Saturday, Raven's Wish hosted several artists and one even brought treats...for me. Oatmeal, cinnamon, and honey Pampered Pet treats, no less. Thanks Gail. You ROCK!

We have accepted several new artists and it has been fun meeting and getting to know them. Someone said we represent more than 60 now and I think that's really cool. The gallery looks very nice with lots of vibrant Spring and Summer colors and new garden-themed items.

Beginning in June, we are adding a new room to the gallery. It was my idea actually, dogs being so popular and all. So I told them why not have a room just for dog art. I guess they are planning on including cats, horses, and various and sundry other pet-like animals, but dogs will be the highlight if I have anything to do with it. Join us soon for the unveiling of the "Critter Corner."

For those of you who thought I had left the country, I haven't. I've been busy hanging out at the gallery, getting in the way, tearing up my bed and, and alternately bouncing off the walls and taking long naps. It is difficult, challenging work and I'm applying myself with gusto.

News Flash! - Raven's Wish is hosting an all glass & clay show beginning on March 28th. Does that mean I have to be more careful with wagging my tail in the gallery? Even so, there will be people to meet and greet. Bring us your cool, your functional, your one-of-a-kind pots and glass creations yearning to be on exhibit. It'll be a blast!

Happy New Year to all of my friends out there! I took some time off over the holidays and returned to my southern roots. A week by the lake with all kinds of wonderful things to smell and roll in have restored all of my youthful enthusiasm and I'm now prepared to return to my position at Raven's Wish as the loyal mascot.

We had a fun and joyous holiday season at the gallery and I got to visit with some old friends. There were also many new faces dropping in and shopping for that "little something special" . I hear we are bringing in several new artists during the winter and I'm looking forward to seeing all of the cool new stuff. Someone mentioned glass hearts and kisses for Valentine's something. I must have nodded off for a minute or two. You'll have to stop in a check those out for yourself. Toodles!

Don't you just love this season? If you dropped by for Snowflake Shindig you know it was a hoot. There is even a bit of ginger ale and a snowflake meringue cookie left for me today. The artists of Raven's Wish had a party on Thursday night and almost everyone wore snowflakes of some persuasion. I wasn't there but I'm told that Gail Pratt, who also loves dogs and cats and has the coolest dog and cat cards and even named her company after a cat, anyway, she wore this jester's hat and took some crocheted snowflakes off her tree and tied them to the ends of the liliripes and the bells lit up and flashed and everyone laughed. We are awarding the Snowflake Shindig Prize of Merit to Gail Pratt of Janesville. So there. See ya' in the funny papers.

Ever been to a shindig? We're having a Snowflake Shindig in December. Will there be food and will I be allowed to dance? I'm sayin' you've never seen a rug cut until you see my jitterbug. Oh, now she says I won't have to dance, just come to the party. There will be treats and snowflakes for everyone. How FESTIVE! See you there!

Life is a funny thing you know. One day you're down and out wondering if you'll ever have another meal, then "POOF" you are the star at an art gallery. Well, maybe not the star. Maybe a planet or a moon or just an asteroid...or a comet. I've known several dogs named Comet. Then again, I'd make a good meteor being fast like that but I won't get burned up in the atmosphere. I'll blaze through the sky making people look up and gasp. Then they'll make a wish on me and all their wishes will come true. One day you're a wet, sad, homeless dog and the next day you're a shooting star.

Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not, remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for.

I'm standing at the front door watching the world go by. We are just getting cleaned up from the Art & Craft Supply Rummage Sale last Saturday. The artists who participated had a fun time and plan on hosting another sale in October. They are also talking about an artists' swap for the holiday get-together. I hope I get to hang out at that event. We are gearing up for fall and the holidays here at the gallery, getting in ornaments and lots of new and neat things, some even with dog and cat themes which is as it should be.

Let the dog do it. Our focus this month at the gallery is ARTful Entertaining. I'm nothing if not artful, really. Check out the serving trays, wine stoppers, copper vases, fabric bowls and containers, cheese boards, and all the other cool stuff just in time for all of your autumn events. The chill in the air the past couple of days has me thinking about falling leaves and all of the wonderful sights and smells of the season. So I'm going to curl up and dream of chasing squirrels.

One of my favorite artists dropped by this morning to get some of her work for a show at CoDoS Coffee in downtown Janesville. We've got a lot in common. She likes dogs. I like dogs. She has way cool tattoos. I have a brindle coat. She likes to paint. I like to sleep between the chairs under the counter. She rescues dogs and cats in trouble. I think that's great! You get the idea.

...and so begins my new blog at Raven's Wish, a pretty nifty place to hang out for a canine. Ya see, I'm a hound, a Plott Hound mix to be exact, and the human here at the gallery found me down at Rock County Humane Society. She says she picked me because I wasn't barking like the others and I didn't jump up on people out in the lobby. Personally, I think she was just mesmerized by my sparkling personality and interesting (gorgeous, cool, stripey, tiger-like...you pick a descriptor) coat. One of the artists the other day said my belly looked like Van Gogh's Starry, Starry Night in sepia tones...yeah right. Anyway, stop in at your leisure and say HI and bring treats if you wish.
